A popular Japanese sushi restaurant in Berlin Mitte implemented SciPOS Table Order System. Chef Tanaka shares how tableside ordering transformed their omakase experience.
At Sushi Zen, Chef Tanaka offers an authentic omakase experience—a chef's choice tasting menu where each course is presented one at a time. The challenge was that guests often wanted to add extra pieces of their favorite nigiri or order additional drinks, but interrupting the chef or flagging down servers broke the intimate dining atmosphere. Some guests hesitated to order more, fearing it would disrupt the flow of the meal.
Chef Tanaka installed SciPOS Table Order System tablets at each seat along the sushi counter and at tables. The interface displays beautifully photographed à la carte items—extra nigiri, sashimi, sake, and desserts—that guests can add at any moment. Orders flow silently to the KDS in the kitchen, allowing Chef Tanaka to incorporate additions seamlessly into the omakase flow without breaking his concentration.
The results exceeded expectations. Guests who previously ordered just the standard omakase course now regularly add 2-3 extra nigiri pieces and an additional sake pairing. The average check increased by 35%. Importantly, guest satisfaction scores on Google reviews improved, with many mentioning the "perfect balance of attentive service and personal space." The TOS created a win-win: more revenue without more intrusion.
