After implementing Bell Order System kiosks, Tokyo Street Restaurant took the next step with Server Display System (SDS). Paper order management is now a thing of the past—servers see real-time dish status updates the moment chefs complete each item.

The Paper Problem

After successfully implementing Bell Order System kiosks, Tokyo Street Restaurant still faced one lingering inefficiency: paper order management. Every order printed a ticket that servers had to track, and the kitchen window became cluttered with slips during busy periods. Servers constantly walked to the kitchen to check if dishes were ready, wasting time and creating traffic jams in the narrow service corridor. Paper costs added up, and lost or smudged tickets occasionally caused service delays.

Server Display System: Real-Time Kitchen Updates

Owner Kenji Yano implemented SDS (Server Display System) tablets for the service staff. Unlike the Kitchen Display System which shows incoming orders for chefs, SDS is designed specifically for servers—it displays the status of dishes as chefs complete them. When a chef marks a dish as "ready" on the KDS, that status instantly appears on every server's SDS tablet. Servers no longer need to physically check the kitchen; they can see exactly which dishes are waiting to be picked up from anywhere in the restaurant.

The Results: Efficiency and Cost Savings

The impact was immediate. Paper ticket printing dropped to zero for dine-in orders, saving roughly €150 per month in paper and printer maintenance. More importantly, food delivery time from kitchen to table improved by 30%—servers now pick up dishes within seconds of completion instead of discovering them minutes later. Staff appreciate the reduced walking and confusion, and customers receive hotter, fresher dishes. "Going paperless wasn't just about the environment," Kenji notes. "It made our entire operation faster and smoother."

"Before SDS, we printed paper tickets for every order and servers had to constantly check the kitchen window. Now when a dish is ready, it appears on the server's tablet instantly. No wasted paper, no shouting across the restaurant, just smooth service."
