When wireless pager bells wouldn't work due to radio interference, Tajima found a creative alternative: Order Status Display projected directly onto the wall. Customers now see real-time cooking status and pickup notifications without any hardware installation.

The Bell System That Wouldn't Work

Like many fast-casual restaurants, Tajima initially planned to use wireless pager bells to notify customers when their food was ready. The concept was simple: hand each customer a small buzzer device that vibrates when their order is complete. However, during testing, the owner discovered a frustrating problem—radio interference from outside the building made the bells unreliable. Signals were blocked or delayed, and customers sometimes missed their notifications entirely. The pager system simply wasn't viable in this location.

Order Status Display: A Visual Solution

Instead of fighting the interference issue, Tajima pivoted to SciPOS Order Status Display (OSD). This digital display shows two sections in real-time: "Now Cooking" lists order numbers currently being prepared in the kitchen, while "It's Ready" shows orders waiting for customer pickup. When chefs mark a dish as complete on the Kitchen Display System, the order number automatically moves from "Now Cooking" to "It's Ready" on the OSD. Customers simply glance at the display to know exactly when to pick up their food.

Projector Installation: No Damage to the Building

Tajima chose to display the OSD using a projector rather than mounting a TV screen. The projector beams the order status directly onto a blank wall, creating a large, highly visible display that customers can see from anywhere in the restaurant. This approach had an unexpected benefit: no drilling, no wall damage, and no permanent fixtures. For a restaurant in a rented space or a historic building, this is a significant advantage. The owner particularly appreciates that the setup is completely reversible—if they ever move locations, they simply take the projector with them.

"We tried wireless pager bells, but interference from outside the building made them unreliable. Order Status Display solved the problem completely—and by using a projector, we didn't need to drill any holes or damage the walls. Customers love seeing their order number appear on the wall when it's ready."
